Grand Canyon Open Dates |
|
|
The South Rim is open all year. The Grand Canyon open dates for the North Rim vary. There are no exact dates because it depends on how early they get a big snow in the fall, and how quickly the roads get cleared in the spring. The road into the North Rim (Highway 67) is closed from the first heavy snow in November or early December to mid-May. The North Rim is actually open in the winter, you just can't get there by road. Some folks will ski in, but mostly wintertime visitors to the Grand Canyon just head for the South Rim. The busy season on the South Rim is approximately mid-May through mid-October. The last trip I made was on an Oct 16th. The weather was great, though with the elevation, the mornings and evenings were a little chilly. So be sure to bundle up for those sunrise and sunset viewings! Here's the Park Service page for the North Rim with the Grand Canyon open dates. Check for any special closures here. They've got other good information too. Enjoy your trip, and I'll see you there! |
