Two Grand Canyon Resorts For luxury accommodations at the Grand Canyon, you have several choices. Of course, there is the El Tovar Hotel in the park itself, but if you're looking for a resort hotel, with all the amenities that you've come to expect, it doesn't quite qualify. There are only two that that can truly be classified as Grand Canyon resorts. The Best Western Grand Canyon Squire Inn is the closest to the canyon. I haven't had the chance to stay there myself (yet!), but it sounds like a great way to get away from the crowds at the end of the day. This hotel has two restaurants, a lounge, sports bar, barber and beauty shops and a guest laundry. They also have a fitness center, sauna and Jacuzzi. There's an outdoor heated pool, plus bowling and billiards in the game room. This place looks like a destination in itself. They've got beautiful spacious rooms (you can see pictures on Expedia's website). They're also located just outside the south entrance to the park. Your second Grand Canyon resorts choice is one that I'm a little more familiar with. It is the Quality Inn Mountain Ranch & Resort. It's located just off of I-40, six miles east of Williams. It's about 55 miles from the Grand Canyon National Park. This is a 3 star establishment that offers tennis courts, volleyball, horseshoes, and basketball courts. The have an outdoor pool, hay rides (for groups of at least 10), and horseback riding (with access to trails in the adjacent Kaibab National Forest). The Quality Inn Mountain Ranch & Resort also provides a complimentary breakfast, a nice restaurant with a good selection (whether you're in the mood for filet mignon, or just a simple fresh sandwich) and facilities for business conferences. The rooms have recently been re furnished and all of them have views of the San Francisco peaks. I was really impressed by the Quality Inn. It was truly off by itself and that made it very relaxing. The staff are excellent and really work hard to make your stay enjoyable. The distance to the canyon was not a problem, since we had 5 days! We made a lot of side trips from here (and the Grand Canyon Railway is located just 6 miles away).
I like to use Expedia.com for online booking. They have lots of choices, good descriptions (even reviews on some hotels), and discounts when you book other travel needs at the same time.
Your choice of Grand Canyon resorts is limited, but these are both luxury accommodations. If you want more amenities than a rim-side room at El Tovar offers, these Grand Canyon resorts will fill the bill.
