Grand Canyon Village Market for Basic Supplies |
|
|
Despite proper planning, travelers may need to find a Grand Canyon village market for basic supplies that ran out or were unanticipated needs. Although it is highly advisable to bring everything necessary to the Grand Canyon before an expedition begins, sometimes extra supplies are needed and there are a couple of places to find them. When visiting the South Rim, propane and diesel fuel can be found in Grand Canyon Village at Babbitt's General Store, which also carries groceries and sells and rents camping equipment. Also accessible in Grand Canyon Village is a Western Union office, a post office and a bank with an ATM (automatic teller machine). There are only two ATM machines on the South Rim one at Bank One in Market Plaza and the other at Maswik Lodge. The Canyon Village Marketplace and Deli general store is actually owned by Bruce Babbitt, the former Interior Secretary to former President Bill Clinton. This Grand Canyon Village market is a general store with a full-service supermarket, souvenir stand and delicatessen. The Grand Canyon Village Market also offers backing equipment along with camping gear. The hours of operation for the Marketplace are from 8 AM to 7 PM and the Deli closes at 6 PM. There is only one gas station inside the South Rim Park, Desert View Chevron, which is 25 miles east of Grand Canyon Village. Health facilities are scarce at the Grand Canyon and there is only one health clinic on the South Rim on Clinic Road, off Center Road between the South Rim entrance road and Grand Canyon Village. The majority of emergency medical services are provided by Park Rangers. Travelers can find out more about the Grand Canyon at the National Geographic Visitor Center in the Village. The Visitor Center offers detailed schedules for programs lead by the rangers and has a bookstore where books, coloring books and posters may be purchased. Going to the Visitor Center gives travelers an opportunity to learn more about what adventures are available at the Grand Canyon. With minimal opportunities to find a Grand Canyon Village market, it is a good idea to bring as many supplies as possible before arriving at this remote rock formation.
